Trident protest at AWE

report from Neil Welch, Newbury Today:
A LARGE police presence oversaw protests at Aldermaston's Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) this morning (Monday).
Around 24 activists from Block the Builders were demonstrating against MPs’ decision to back the renewal of Britain’s nuclear deterrent.

Police said the protest was peaceful, and that no arrests were made.

In a throwback to the French Revolution, many of the women at the protest sat knitting by the gates of AWE. This reference to Les Tricoteuses – the women who sat knitting by the guillotine during beheadings – is meant to highlight what protestors say are “sinister” activities inside AWE.

Block the Builders took their protests to Westminster last Wednesday, causing traffic chaos at Parliament square by chaining themselves to giant mock Trident missiles.

report from Earth First:

The next planned blockade and protest at Aldermaston has been called by Trident Ploughshares for Tuesday 10th April (just after Easter weekend). Please come along and bring your mates too, and help keep up the pressure!
